Cash For Clunkers

President Obama has signed the Cash for Clunkers bill, formally know as Car Allowance Rebate System (C.A.R.S.), bill.

If your car is no more then 25 years old, gets 18 miles per gallon or less, and has been registered and insured for the past year, you can get $4,500 in credit to trade it in for a more fuel efficient vehicle.

This is great news, but again what about those who have not worried about image and driven a car that gets reasonable mileage. We get zilch, once again the irresponsible get a reward.

Now I know that some people have these cars because it’s all they can afford. But I also see people driving large cars and trucks for the image factor.

It’s the same story, buy a house too big, borrow more then you can afford, have a big vehicle and want a newer one? The government will help you.

Supreme Court Says Savana Redding Strip Search Was Illegal

I’m relieved that the Supreme Court has rules that the strip search of a 13 year girl was illegal.

The court stated that the search of Savana’s outer clothes and backpack but permissible. When they had her strip and asked to search her underwear they went too far.

Some restrictions that have been placed on students are just plain ridiculous. Sure, we all agree that guns, knives and illegal drugs should not be allowed. But aspirin, nail clippers, finger nail files.

A pen or pencil could also be considered dangerous. Next we’ll have them using crayons and chalk.

June 21

June 21st, first day of summer, the summer solstice, where there is more light than darkness. Oh, if this were only true for the economy.

It’s Father’s day, one day out of 365 that has sometimes seemed to have become another Hallmark day.

My father has passed, but I still remember the six ten hour days that he worked, with one week of vacation per year. We may not have all we wanted, but we had all we needed.

My mother’s 78th birthday, still mowing her own lawn when I called to wish her happy birthday.

May we all appreciate the previous generation and pass on as much, if not more more, to the next.
